"The exhibition Fantaisies. Jacques Henri Lartigue, Décors and Haute-Couture organized by the museum of Art and History Louis-Senlecq of L'Isle-Adam proposes to discover an unknown part of the work of Jacques Henri Lartigue, carried out in the margin of his production as a painter and photographer. The important artworks and drawings by Lartigue, the fruit of the donation of the artist and his wife to the city of L'Isle-Adam, as well as the deposit of the Fondation de France in 2001 at the museum of Art and History Louis-Senlecq, constitute the starting point of this exhibition project. Grouping nearly 170 pieces, under the title of "fantasies", the exhibition presents a series of fashion sketches and decorative youth drawings, scenery photographs ephemeral and grandiose galas made by the artist in the 1930s, fabrics of the house Bianchini Férier in 1937-1938 executed from drawings by Jacques Henri Lartigue, or free variations around flower motifs, balloons, birds. Lartigue's friendships with the seamstress Carven and collaborations of the artist with the fashion press and the Italian house of Fede Cheti art fabrics are also discussed. The exhibition brings together pieces from the three collections dedicated to the work of Jacques Henri Lartigue: the collection of the Louis-Senlecq Museum of Art and History of L'Isle-Adam, the deposit of the Fondation de France at the Louis-Senlecq museum and the Donation collection Jacques Henri Lartigue (AAJHL). Generous loans from the Museum of Fabrics and Arts decorations of Lyon and Palais Galliera, the Fashion Museum of the City of Paris, enrich the selection of exhibits. (source : exhibition catalogue)
